Nice flat in the middle of Berlin with plenty of historic charm - Summer 2023: exchange arranged

Wir suchen ein Angebot für die Herbstferien. Gerne in den Bergen oder am Meer. Der Zeitraum kann halbwegs flexibel gestaltet werden.

We are looking for an offer during Berlin's fall break. We would be happy to find a mountain or seashore location. The exchange slot is to some extend flexible.

Our Berlin apartment at the third floor of a front house opens to north and south and is characterised by its large living room and a spacious kitchen-dining room. It has room for a total of up to 6 persons with small corridor and bathroom and has another 2 bedrooms (1 with a double bed) and 2 balconies (1 to south and 1 to north direction). A cozy backyard with a small fountain invites to relax during warm summer evenings.
The neighborhood (Prenzlauer Berg von Berlin) is lively with restaurants, beer gardens, clubs, theatres, museums and concert stages nearby. You will find a tram stop opposite of the house as well as bus, underground and local train stops only minutes away (travel times to: Alexanderplatz 15 min, Brandenburger Tor 25 min, Berlin Tegel Airport 40 min). A 15-minutes tram direct ride (Metro Tram M 10) will take you to Berlin's Central Station (Hauptbahnhof). Within a 10 minutes walk you will reach the 1.5 km long Berlin Wall memorials at Bernauer Strasse.

Onde estamos e o que há por perto

Aeroporto mais próximo: Berlin Tegel Airport (TXL) - 12 km

Prenzlauer Berg is popular with tourists for its picturesque streets, its nightlife and its central location. Unlike other parts of Berlin, it retains much of its prewar architecture and is still replete with cobble-stoned streets and ornate buildings from the beginning of the 20th century. Many areas of Prenzlauer Berg have become trendy shopping areas with streetstyle fashion designers selling their wares in its boutiques.

Prenzlauer Berg was developed during the second half of the 19th century based on an urban planning design from 1862 by James Hobrecht, the so-called Hobrecht-Plan for Berlin. Prenzlauer Berg was part of what became known as the Wilhelmine Ring with a primarily working-class population. In Nazi Germany (1933-1945) landmark buildings such as the water tower at Rykestraße and the office buildings at Froebelstraße were used as makeshift concentration camps and torture chambers.

During the World War II years the city population decreased as many inhabitants were evacuated to the countryside to escape aerial bombardment. When the city was divided by the allies, Prenzlauer Berg became part of the Soviet Sector and from 1947 onward part of the capital of the German Democratic Republic. From the 1960s onward, the borough's tenement houses (in German: Mietskasernen) were home to intellectuals, artists, students, and East Germany's gay community.

Historic buildings like Wasserturm (water tower), near Kollwitzplatz, or the Prater Beer Garden in Kastanienallee, as well as the former brewery in Schönhauser Allee/Sredzkystraße still give an impression of the days when Prenzlauer Berg was part of so-called Steinernes Berlin (Berlin of stone) as described by author Werner Hegemann in 1930.
