We are contemplating UK exchanges for the remainder of 2020 and Europe for 2021 given current restrictions. We prefer to exchange outside of the main summer holiday period but are open to Christmas, New Year or Easter suggestions
House in BATH, Great Britain. Close to historic city centre,a world heritage site
We have a spacious Victorian home, originally built in 1875. The large garden has a lawn, swing and tampoline at the front. The steep back garden has a series of terraces, a further lawn and a vegetable and fruit garden. There are table and chairs in the courtyard at the rear as well as on the top lawn.
The house is in a quiet semi-rural location but less than a kilometre to the city centre. There is a field at the back with cows, occasional sheep and often deer grazing. The deer often come into our garden. We regularly see buzzards and herons as well as smaller birds and hear tawny owls at night. There is a small stream opposite the front of the house and woods and fields. The area is very safe and secure.
On the ground floor are the lounge (with woodburning stove), dining room, kitchen as well as a separate toilet. On the first floor are three bedrooms (one double, one with bunks beds and a single with trundle bed) and a family bathroom. On the second (top) floor is a double bedroom and a further bathroom with a rolltop bath. Both bathrooms have a shower as well as a bath and toilet and wash basins.
It is a ten to fifteen minute walk from our house to shops and the city centre - the easiest route goes along the River Avon. There is no need for a car when staying here. Most local attractions are in walking distance and there is good public transport.
We prefer exchanges to city or coastal locations and have previously exchanged with places including Bruges, Barcelona, Reykjavik, Budapest, Chicago, Rome, San Juan Islands - Washington State (USA), Canary Islands (Spain) Karlsruhe (Germany), Amsterdam, Stockholm, Vienna, Buenos Aires and Mendoza (Argentina) and Havelock North and Nelson in New Zealand

Some attractions are currently closed due to Covid-19 but there are a huge number of local walks and parks and glorious Georgian architecture to admire for free and in the open air. Please check in advance if there is a specific indoor attraction you are keen to visit.
Bath is a world heritage site and has Roman baths which are 2,000 years old as well as a modern thermal spa with natural spa water. The city is famous for its well-preserved 18th century Georgian architecture The Royal Crescent and the Circus among the best examples. Retrace the steps of author Jane Austen, explore the Roman city or pamper yourself at the spa - especially the roof top pool at 34 degrees centigrade with a view over the city. It has an historic abbey and a sometimes excellent rugby team.
There is a wide range of small independent shops as well as the major chains. Bath has some of the southwest's finest restaurants (including the Bath Priory and Menu Gordon Jones) as well as some excellent pubs gastropubs and bistros. There is a wide range of art galleries and museums as well as lots of activities for children including the local sports and leisure complex and parks. Museums include architecture, fashion, astronomy and history as well as east asian art. The theatre often previews West End shows and there are two cinemas in the city centre. There are excellent walks along the river or Kennet and Avon canal or around the Bath skyline. There are two golf courses nearby.

Other attractions nearby include Bristol (15 mins by train), the Cotswolds or local countryside and historic houses such as Dryham, Longleat and Stourhead and Westonbirt Arboreatum. Bristol has the ssGreat Britain and an excellent science and natural history museum as well as some great shops. Stonehenge is also easily accessed by car or coach. There are beaches at Weston Super Mare and Weymouth accessible by train. There are several Michelin starred restaurants in the countryside around Bath. Further afield you can travel to Devon and Cornwall or to South Wales.
Bath is 75 mins from London by train (Paddington station) or 2 hours by coach (Victoria coach station). It is easily accessible from Bristol or London Heathrow airports.
