BOLOGNA: LA DOTTA, LA GRASSA (Nickname: The Learned One, the Fat One)

There are more than fifty museums in Bologna that conserve rich heritage unique both for the quality of the master pieces and their thematic and time diversity. You are free to make your itinerary choosing from the most classic to the most curious and surprising museums.
You can admire the magnificent Etruscan situla (vessel) from Certosa, the majestic statue in marble of Bonifacio VIII, the picture by Raffaello Estasi di Santa Cecilia (St. Cecil Ecstasy), the Angel statue by Michelangelo, Madonna col bambino (Virgin Mary with child) by Giotto, Madonna col bambino e santi (Virgin Mary with child and saints) by Parmigianino, frescos by Caracci and Guido Reni, the house of Giorgio Morandi and his pictures...

The city of Bologna has a centuries long tradition of craftsmanship and trade, which has been expressed historically in the markets and shops of the downtown streets and not only.
For a long time in the Quadrilateral of Bologna, the true heart of the business, there have been many workshop and stores that sell goods of Bologna and its territory. They are still present today. Very often families of artisans and traders have handed down the professions from one generation to the next, thus maintaining specialized product groups for customers. This ensures a high level of research and quality. In this part of town, which is heavily commercialized, there are still characteristic places, with roomsand furnishings of historic times, in some cases having great artistic value.

The culinary tradition of Bologna is famous worldwide thanks to its culinary specialties such: mortadella, tagliatelle, green lasagna, ragù, tortellini, fritto misto, cotoletta, friggione and many more. Dishes that you can discover, learn to cook in the cooking classes and enjoy the restaurants of the city.

We live in a very green quiet area  very well served:  there is a small mall, with food market, pharmacy, post office, bank in the surroundings (30 meters).
We are close to:   City center,Train Station few bussess stops , Airport 5 km, Highway 2 km.
Due to our position, we are very close to a lot of other interesting town such as Florence (50' by train/car), Ravenna (40'), Venice (1 hour), Verona (1 hour), Rimini (1 hour), Parma (50'), Modena (30'), Ferrara (30') and a lot of other. We have one of the most important railway station, that could link you to any other place in Italy. We have a lot of green area and sport activity nearby (football, basketball, swimmingpool ...). Therefore you can enjoy your days visiting Bologna (or the surroundings) and relax when you go back home, at night.

Bologna is a city of extraordinary sociability and vitality. The streets of the historical city center sparkle with life at any time of day and until late at night.

In the charming streets close to Piazza Maggiore, where the lively and picturesque old market (Mercato di Mezzo) winds through the shops of typical products, a must is an aperitif either in an old osteria (tavern) or, after a walk through the luxurious shops, in a trendy venue.

The evening range of proposals is extraordinarily rich and goes from the many places with live music to the simple but refined osterie (taverns) open until late at night. And then the prestigious theaters, the several cinemas, discos and, during summer, the whole town which turns into a lively open-air stage.

Piazza Maggiore is the ancient heart of Bologna. Its medieval buildings, witnesses of its vibrant public life and intense economic activity, combine with the latest functional places, while retaining their charm. A network of unique porticoed streets, that make the city unique, branches off from here. The porticos of Bologna, candidated for UNESCO world heritage, stretch out from the city center over 40 kilometers.

Walking under the porticos, protected from the sun and the rain, it is possible to reach easily many important museums, galleries and religious buildings, which hold an unexpected patrimony of works of art.

The University of Bologna is the oldest in Europe. The evidence of its prestigious history is spread out in many city places not to be missed.

A completely unexpected surprise are the canals that date back to the twelfth century.
